Bill to amend the Penal Code.
HEREAS it is expedient to amend the Penal Code and to make better provision by law for the protection of females brought into the Colony for immoral purposes;
It is hereby enacted by the Governor of the Straits Settle- ments, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:---
1. After section 373 of the Penal Code, the following sections Section 373, shall be inserted :----

373a. Whoever brings or assists in bringing into the Colony tmporting with any woman with intent to sell or otherwise dispose of such woman, so that the person bringing or assisting in bringing her, or any other person, may make a profit from the prostitution of such woman; aut
whoever brings or assists in bringing into the Colony any or knowing woman knowing it to be likely that such woman will be sold, or purpose, employed, or used for the purpose of prostitution, for profit to any person other than the woman herself; and
whoever sells or buys any woman for the purpose of prostitu- or buys or cells.

3738. Whoever, knowing, or having reason to believe, that any abducting with woman has been sold for the purpose of prostitution, whether it within or without the Colony, or has been brought to the Colony for the purpose of prostitution by means of false pretences, false representations, or any fraudulent or deceitful means, abducts such woman, with intent that she may be employed or used for the purpose of prostitution, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term not exceeding seven years, and shall also be liable to fine.
2. This Ordinance may be cited as the "Penal Code Amend- short title. ment Ordinance, 1882,”
